At first I had the thought that she might have been you
But as time was wearing on I soon doubted that was true
It's seems so easy to be kind when I've fallen in love
But when the feelings fall away it's harder than I thought it was
I just never caught her eye, she had no cares for me
And I felt emptiness inside, yet learned to be happy
When happiness first comes from God, I can now be free
To choose to love you without strings or seeking my own needs
She taught me how to love even when I did not want to
Now I see that it helps me to never turn from you
My happiness comes first from God and no one else can do
And a helper turns my heart to Him so my love can be true
We try to find true love, but no human being can make it
For God Himself is love - He gives, but do we take it?
He first loved us and sent His Son, if we trust then He'll acquit
If we choose Him then we'll learn love with help from His Spirit
Only if I love God most will my love become true
Somehow I will love you more when I love God more than you
When we love we learn God's love is deeper than we knew
So I'll help you and you'll help me to love God through and through
