Stolen Music

Whenever they played those songs
She would always sing along
An image in a looking glass
How to feel; how to act

In love with the thought of
Being wildly in love
She learned from the melodies
Prescriptions how lovers should be

And how to deal with her hate
When a broken heart was her fate
The songwriters clearly understood
How else could they sound so good?

The same chords yet another song
False words we've heard for far too long
How they have corrupted music
Stolen from the One who rules it

Sing clichés of love and lust
For feelings that they prophesy
Small truths so that we may trust
The message of these massive lies

All my friends keep singing
As my heart's scream is ringing
in my head
I don't know what to do

Shall we do some thinking
Discern what they are singing
What culture's emphasizing
What we should be despising

The same chords yet another song
False words we've heard for far too long
How they have corrupted music
Stolen from the One who rules it

Sing clichés of love and lust
For feelings that they prophesy
Small truths so that we may trust
The message of these massive lies

All my friends keep singing
As my heart's scream is ringing
in my head
I don't know what to do
