A Daylight Walk at Night

She was a friend of a friend of mine
She was funny and fun and fine
Great times hangin' out, playing cards and basketball
But now I can't recognize her at all

She wanted to feel more beautiful
Take the spotlight and be a supermodel
But she lost a part of herself
While becoming somebody else

And she said to her mirror,
"Are you the love
I'm dreaming of?
Can you hold me so
that you will never let go?"

I met a girl just the other day
She was beautiful, or so they would say
But when I talked to her I nearly fell apart
She had a wretched, rotten, beaten, broken heart

Prince charming she dreamed of
But couldn't find him
Among the boys in the night club
Though she flirted with all of them

And she said to each next boy,
"Are you the love
I'm dreaming of?
Can you hold me so
that you will never let go?"

I saw some girls on their way to the bar
I was cut to the heart by how lost they are
Did even one of them understand?
She was chained up by her own hand

Love was just an emotion
She just didn't have
Alcohol was her potion
As she found herself sad

And she said to the bottle,
"Are you the love
I'm dreaming of?
Can you hold me so
that you will never let go?"

In the dark of the night
Will Jesus come in?
He can make messes right
And wash off chains of sin...

And He says,
"I am the love
you're dreaming of
I will hold you so
that I will never let go."
