There I saw you
Looking at me
Haunting me.
Your stare slaps
My eyes away
I gaze at a poster on the wall, for I know
You look away too.
It won't be long until I'm free
From this prison
Of you.
But it's longer than I thought
The engineers, instead of making it faster, added
Posters and mirrors
To fool impatient minds. Beside you
They fail.
I hide behind this curtain of
Fig leaves.
They shrivel in the
Dry
Wind that blows them away.
Stopped.
Is time frozen
Or has the elevator ceased to go?
I'm here with you
Fearing you
Still needing you to know.
I say,
"I hate what you've done to me
I want you to change
I know that you won't, but see
Things can't stay the same."
The door opens, and I'm
Alone.
I step off.
Emptiness surrounds me.
Where did the other person go at the end?
